Description: 1933 Max Carey National League All-Star Team professional model hat. Original hat issued for use in the first All-Star Game in history which was played at Comiskey Park in Chicago on July 6, 1933. The event was conceived of by Arch Ward of the Chicago Tribune after Mayor Edward Kelly floated the idea of a major sports event, timed to coincide with Chicago's hosting of the World's Fair, which would help to boost morale during the Great Depression. It would become a highly anticipated annual event showcasing the games' greatest talent. The hat has "NL" embroidered on the front in white and "M Carey" player name is stitched into the leather band inside. Impressed "Spalding" mark is largely intact and a partially faded size tag starts with the number "7." Well preserved and in fine overall condition with use and some general age related wear. Exceedingly rare with this being one of very few serving examples as issued to one of (20) future Hall of Famers who participated in the game.
