Description: June 3, 1969 Roberto Clemente 2,417th Career Base Hit ball (Game tying Home Run). Historic game ball which was blasted for a game tying three run home run by Clemente in a game played in Pittsburgh against the Cincinnati Reds. Clemente hit the home run off of Reds' pitcher Jim Merritt which was also his career hit number 2,417 moving him into third place on the All-Time Pirates list. Remarked Merritt after the game, "I gambled with a little dew-drop on the first pitch to Clemente, But I got it too high. Clemente's shot cleared the wall between the scoreboard and the foul pole." Warren Giles NL baseball exhibits evident use and surface soiling with period inscription on side panel, "June 3, 1969--2,417 BASE HIT HOME RUN". Additional inscription of, "AT PITTSBURGH, PA" in same hand found on another side panel. Highly desirable historic hit and home run baseball with uncommon primary source provenance.
