Notably rare pair of items from the last regular season game played by Lou Gehrig before he removed himself from the lineup due to his worsening medical condition. The program remains very clean with minimal overall wear and is neatly scored in pencil. The ticket stub is for a reserved seat and has no creases or tears retaining strong original color. See a Picture of this Item 737 Rare Lou Gehrig auto. typed letter. Dated April 26, 1940 typed letter on New York City Parole Commission stationary of which Gehrig was a member. The letter is addressed to a Mary Vansuch of Cambell,Ohio with the content speaking most appropriately for itself. It reads, "Dear Mrs. Vansuch: My condition, as diagnosed by the Mayo Clinic, is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and may I suggest that in the event that you have had a similar diagnosis that you have your physician contact Dr. I.S. Wechsler, 70 East 83d Street, New York City. With kindest personal regards, Very truly yours, Lou Gehrig". At the time this letter was written Gehrig had only a little over a year and one month to live as the disease ravaged his once Herculean body. Given Gehrig's character and personality it is quite evident from the rarity of post 1939 autographed materials that he would take great effort to sign a document such as the offfered example given the situation of its' recipient. Letter has mailing fold lines and a small tear (with chip) on right edge, signature remains quite bold and rates 7/8 out of 10. This letter was recently discovered not far from where it was originally sent and is being offered for the first time publicly. Wonderful auto. letter with unimproveable content and substantial rarity, accompanied by LOA from James Spence PSA/DNA: Letter: VG, Signature: EX-EX/MT ($7,500.00-$10,000.00) $9,500.00

See a Picture of this Item 738 Significant Lou Gehrig New York Yankees road jersey c.1927-28. Lou Gehrig remains today one of the most storied and tragic figures in American sports history as he was so suddenly taken from the top of his profession to death by a rare neuromuscular disease later titled after his name. Quietly he led the New York Yankees, along with Babe Ruth, to numerous AL and World Championships, countless individual records, and unanimous respect from not only his fans but his fellow players. The offered jersey represents one of the two finest Lou Gehrig related uniform pieces known (The other being his 1939 "Farewell Speech" uniform) dating from the prime of his career and used during the pinnacle of the Yankees' dominance regarded by many as the greatest team in baseball history. The shirt remains in fine original condition retaining its' original A.G. Spalding Bros. tag in collar along with "Gehrig H.L." chain stitched alongside in a muted red color consistent with its' age. The front of the jersey proudly displays "Yankees" blue lettering which have faded gently with age and was the only time in the history of the team to be worn on their jerseys. "46" size is chain stitched at base of front left tail, back has small section of bottom trimmed out where the drawstrings once were present which is consisitent with other known Gehrig shirts as they seemed to be bothersome to him. Simply a magnificient example with historical import, desirable condition, and rarity. Jersey originated in the collection of noted collector Barry Halper and was subsequently sold in the now famous Sotheby's auction of the Halper collection. It was purchased from the auction by the Upper Deck baseball card company and given away in a contest to the current consignor: EX-EX/MT (Estimate Upon Request) $170,000.00
