Each signature remains bold rating 9 out of 10 with Ruth having a slight ink imperfection on the "B" in Babe. On the front of the envelope is a purple time clock stamp dated Oct. 13, 1927 which was only five days after the Yankees had completed their sweep of the Pirates in the 1927 World Series. Harridge (blue stamp) AL baseball boldly signed on the sweet spot in blue fountain pen by Babe Ruth. Ball itself remains very clean with minimal wear save for a few minute surface abrasions. The signature rates a solid 9.5/10 out of 10 with no flaws, fading, or uneven tones. The ball was originally obtained by a Detroit area gentleman who worked as a purchasing agent for the Ford Motor Co. and met Mr. Ruth during a promtional tour at the plant in Dearborn, MI. The ball was lovingly guarded and descended in the original owner's family until its' current offering all along with the family recognition of the grave consequences that would fall upon the individual that would attempt to play with or mis-handle the ball. Clearly among the top two single signed Ruth baseballs that we have offered with regard to condition and provenance in addition to easily ranking as one the finest single signed Ruth balls to be offered at auction. Matte finish promotional photograph of Ruth and Gehrig in full uniform signed under each player's fasc. autograph. Ruth is notably bold and grades a 9/10 out of 10, Gehrig is equally clean although not as bold given his penmanship style and grades 8/9 out of 10. "Oct. 25-28 at Dayton, Ohio" written in period ink at bottom rt. denoting the date on which the original recipient had the photo signed. Ruth and Gehrig toured extensively during the late 1920's with souvenirs from their Tours ranking among the most desired with relation to Ruth and Gehrig from the era. The offered image was obtained by Louis "Bill" Koogler who with his father attended a barnstorming game in 1928 and went onto the field after the game to obtain the players autographs. The photo then happily resided in the young Koogler's 'sock drawer' for the next 30 years even as he went on to serve in the U.S. Army only bringing the photo out to show family and friends on occasion. Mr. Koogler had the photo in his posession for 60 years until his death when it was inherited by his family and remained as such for another 12 years. The rarity of authentic Ruth and Gehrig signed photographs is vastly understated in comparison to balls, paper items , and other mediums.
