See a Picture of this Item 524 Superb Babe Ruth single signed baseball bat c.1933. In our February 2000 auction we were privileged to offer the finest single signature Babe Ruth baseball to be sold at public auction which brought a record price of $72,600.00. To begin the autographed materials portion of our auction we offer a spectacular Babe Ruth single signed baseball bat. The bat is a 35” Louisville Slugger 40BR model which remains in near original as issued condition with full surface gloss, handsome walnut brown finish, and full gilt lettering in the word “Powerized”. Just to the right of the Powerized symbol is a 1”x4” area that has been shaved to the wood base and has been signed in blue fountain pen by Babe Ruth. The signature rates a 9.5 out of 10 lacking all of the common problems associated with signed bats such as pen skips and contrast issues. The bat was received as a prize in a contest by a St. Louis area youth and has descended in his family until its’ sale in this auction. Bat dates to 1933 from the type of stampings and their arrangement which is congruent with the family history and signature style regarding dating. Only mentionable defects are a few tiny dings and scratches on secondary areas of the bat. The rarity of a high grade auto. bat versus a ball is difficult to determine but by the very nature of a bat’s size and the fact that the amount of bats originally signed is significantly less then the numbers of signed balls it is obvious that a bat would rank as the more challenging acquisition. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Michael Gutierrez (autograph), letter of authenticity from David Bushing (bat), and a letter of provenance from the original recipient’s wife. We have not encountered a finer single signed Babe Ruth bat: NM-NM/MT (Estimate Upon Request) Estimate Upon Request $30,000.00
