The June 12, 1939 Inaugural Hall of Fame Induction remains, to date, one of the greatest assemblages of baseball giants including Ruth, Cobb, Wagner, Speaker, Young, Johnson, and Mack. Autographed baseballs from that storied date are rarely seen and very desirable. The offered baseball is a clean lt. cream color Harridge AL ball signed by (6) members of the original HOF inductee class. Signatures include Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, George Sisler, Connie Mack, Eddie Collins, and Walter Johnson. The autographs remain as the day they were signed ranging from 9-10 out of 10. The ball was consigned by the family of the original recipient and had remained stored in a drawer for over 50 years. Easily among the finer condition exemplars of its type and one of only a handful to enter the marketplace. Striking 3 7/8"x5 1/2" mounted studio portrait of Mathewson in New York Giants uniform which has been signed in black fountain pen, "To Mr. Peter Heim From Christy Mathewson Jan. 7, 1911". Salutation and signature have some variances in darkness with the signature itself among the strongest rating 6/7 out of 10. Small "C" copyright style symbol in the manner of other Horner images is visible at bottom right and photo remains mounted on an unmarked period mount. Mathewson continued his dominance in 1911 winning 26 games and completing 29 games en route to leading the New York Giants to the National League pennant. With respect to the early playing career dating, rarity and quality of the attributed Horner original image, and scarcity of Mathewson signed images due to his early death from tuberculosis, the offered example must be considered the finest Mathewson photograph to be offered at auction. Some faint color shadowing from the #21 remains on the shirt which could be cleaned if so desired. Jersey exhibits evident usage/wash wear incl. some original light color bleeding around the team name. McAuliffe tag remains on tail front along with "62" year tag, "44" size tag, and "Snider" chain stitched onto a strip tag. Silverplated presentational bowl given to Reese for his participation in the legendary May 7, 1959 game between the Dodgers and Yankees at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The game was played to honor the fallen Roy Campanella who had become paralyzed in a car accident after the 1958 season. The game was attended by 93,103 fans and remains to date a Major League record. Front of the bowl is inscribed "Yankee-Dodger Game In Honor Of Roy Campanella May 7th, 1959 Los Angeles Coliseum". See a Picture of this Item 26 Significant Jackie Robinson and Roy Campanella auto. photograph c.1947. Candid sepia tone 8"x10" image taken on April 15, 1947 at Ebbets Field as Jackie Robinson prepared to play in his first Major League Baseball game. A gentleman by the name of Teddy Chisolm was the assistant manager at the Regent Theater in Bedford Stuyvesant, New York. The manager of the theater, Ben Resnick, had hired Jackie Robinson to make appearances at the theater and as such he and Mr. Chisolm were to meet Jackie at Ebbets Field in order to take a photograph for promotion. The offered image was taken immediately upon Jackie's arrival to the field as he was late having gotten lost in Brooklyn on the way to the field. The image was later signed by Jackie in blue ink, "Best Wishes from Jackie Robinson" and by Roy Campanella, "Best Wishes from Roy Campanella". Campanella was also hired by Resnick to make appearances at the theater. Robinson signature remains very strong rating 9 out of 10, Campanella has some slight fading to the end of the last name and rates 7/8 out of 10. This is the first vintage Robinson and Campanella signed image that we have offered with special mention of the historical import of the image itself. His multiple home run titles and Gold Glove awards easily place him among the finest third basemen to ever play the game. Back has "Sandberg" nameplate above #37, Wilson tag remains on the tail front along with "81 2" year/set strip tag. Inside collar is a chain stitched name on a strip tag of "Halicki". The jersey was most likely issued to journeyman pitcher Ed Halicki (released from the Angels in 1980) for Spring Training and then subsequently issued to Sandberg.
