Interior leather band has Spalding stamping and "G.Ruth" chain stitched into leather. Hat shows good usage wear with intact bill, has tiny area of material separating at corner of the bill. Obtained by Mueller while teamates on the 1935 Boston Braves, one of only a handfull of authentic Ruth hats extant and must be considered on of the finest of the group given the provenance and overall condition. See a Picture of this Item 649 Rare and Important Oct. 11, 1924 panoramic photograph of the First Negro League World Series. One of only a handful of authentic examples of this historically significant image known to exist. The offered photo pictures the Kansas City Monarchs vs. the Hilldale Club lined up on the field at Muehlenbach Park in Kansas City before the fifth game of the Series. The photo retains superb contrast and clarity and has some light staining on its' white borders and an area of wear to the far right end incl. abrasions, small tear, and some border staining all of which could be greatly improved with some light restoration/inpainting. The players pictured read like a Who's Who in the history of Negro League baseball incl. Foster, Mendez, Santop, Mackey, J.Johnson, and Cool Papa Bell. The Negro League World Series was important in establishing a "true" league champion but were financially unsuccessful. The 1925 games, for example, paid the champion Hilldale players an average of $80.00 for all ten games.
