Lot Number: 443

Description: Fine 1949 Johnny Mize New York Yankees World Series ring. Original ring as presented to Hall of Fame member Johnny Mize in recognition of his participation with the New York Yankees World Championship team of 1949. 10K gold ring features "New York Yankees World Champions' lettering on the ring top encircling a central inset diamond of approx. 1/4 carat weight. Each adjacent side panel features date of 1949 positioned above Yankees team insignia. Interior ring band displays proper "Balfour 10K" hallmark along with "John Mize" engraved name ("Mize" largely worn off). Size is a very impressive 15 (possibly slightly resized in the period), total weight of approx. 1 Troy ounce. After an illustrious tenure with the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Giants Johnny Mize was traded to the New York Yankees during the 1949 season. Mize became an integral role player for the Yankees over the next five seasons as a significant contributor to their consecutive World Championships during that same period. Only a scant few 1949 Yankees World Series rings have ever been offered for public sale with the Mize exemplar, and Casey Stengel's, ranking as the most notable of that population. Includes letter of provenance from the Mize family: EX-MT
