Description: Important 1939 Bucky Walters National League Most Valuable Player presentational pocket watch. Fine quality Longines pocket watch has been engraved on the casing, "Wm. H. Bucky Walters, Most Valuable Player of National League for 1939, Selected By Baseball Writers Ass'n Of America, Presented By The Sporting News." Walter's Major League career spanned (16) seasons which included a (10) year stint with the Cincinnati Reds that was far and away his most productive. He helped lead the club to a pair of National League titles in 1939 and 40 and the later culminated in a World Series Championship. His triple crown winning efforts in 1939 (with League leading numbers in wins, strikeouts, and ERA) earned recognition as it's Most Valuable Player. The watch remains in strong overall condition having long been stored in the original box (included) displaying little meaningful wear. Includes letter of provenance from the Walters family, vintage telegram from Warren Giles to Walters congratulating him on the NL MVP, and a period article detailing the presentation of the watch to Walters: NM
